Heckscher Museum Rocks Long Island!

The Heckscher Museum’s current exhibition Rock On! Masterworks of Music Photography opened October 2nd in Huntington, Long Island. The show features work from 25 photographers exhibited at Govinda Gallery. Among the photographers featured is Gered Mankowitz and his classic black and white portrait of Keith Richards from 1965. The Heckscher has highlighted that image on the exhibition invitation as well as the exhibition poster.

Speaking of Gered and Keith Richards, another image of Gered’s, Keith working on Aftermath is published in Keith’s just released and much acclaimed autobiography Life.

Mankowitz’s own book The Experience: Jimi Hendrix at Mason’s Yard has also just been published and features his extraordinary collection of photos of The Jimi Hendrix Experience taken in 1967 at Gered’s studio in London. Gered’s new book features a forward by Rolling Stone’s Bill Wyman. The Heckscher exhibition is showing Gered’s classic portrait of Jimi Hendrix as well.
