Happy New Year From Govinda Gallery

by Chris Murray on January 6, 2011

2010 was Govinda Gallery’s 35th anniversary and it was one of the gallery’s most exciting years. Starting with a feature story by Bob Colacello in January’s Vanity Fair on Alfred Wertheimer’s photographs of Elvis Presley and our work with Wertheimer, and then the opening of major museum exhibitions organized in collaboration with Govinda Gallery in Los Angeles, Boca Raton, Athens, Greece, Winchester, Long Island, Wilkes-Barre, Cleveland, Washington D.C., and Medellin, Columbia, 2010 was surely a memorable year for us.

There were many highlights in 2010, but two that were extraordinary were the exhibitions of Donovan’s Sapphographs in Athens and Nafplio organized with Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies and The Hellenic American Union in Athens, and the launch of the Elvis at 21 exhibition organized with the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibition Service, at the Grammy Museum in January.

Photographer Vivienne Foster set up a portrait studio at Govinda Gallery’s party for Alfred Wertheimer and his Elvis at 21 exhibition in Washington D.C. In celebration of 2010 we present a selection of Foster’s portraits from that evening. Here is the link to Washington Life’s coverage of that celebration. My thanks to everyone who supported our exhibitions and projects in 2010.

  1. Most impressive! Became aware of the images because of the image of Anne Marchand. Amazing shot and so delighted to see so many other faces I am associated with.
