D.C. R & B and Soul Moves to 1227 34th Street

by Chris Murray on February 25, 2011

Hot on the heels of the Motown celebration last night at the White House, Govinda Gallery celebrates Black History Month with an exhibition of photographs of Washington area R & B and Soul. Opening tonight at Govinda is D.C. photographer Fernando Sandoval’s exhibition Bustin’ Loose. Though President Obama and Stevie Wonder are not expected at the Govinda opening, President Felix McClairen of the D.C. Blues Society is attending along with several musical artists featured in the exhibition including Bobby Parker, Memphis Gold, Black Magic and Selena McDay. Also expected is Grammy Museum Director Bob Santelli, who hosted the first stop of the Elvis at 21 exhibition of Alfred Wertheimer’s photographs, organized by Govinda Gallery and S.I.T.E.S. The Elvis at 21 exhibition recently left the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. to record breaking attendance and has just opened this week at the James A. Michener Museum in Doylestown Pennsylvania.

Selena lifted all the ladies higher, and the rhythm guys, too. Hearing her perform her magnificent new song in progress is only one reason to believe that this DC music show at the Govinda Gallery is off the walls and jumping into your bitechn bones.

Just stopped by to say THANK U, THANK U for a fantastic “moment in time” Chris! Your gallery’s intimate setting was the perfect venue for Photography “Artist” extraordinaire Fernando Sandoval’s exhibit of some of the DMV’s R&B musicians’ opening last night! And the warm, “friends and family gathering” atmosphere you’ve created there at the Govinda made what was for me such an important “moment in the time of MY life” (many thanx again 2 Fernando) w/the debut of the 1st 3 trax of my 20 PLUS year “dream deferred”, even MORE special! I’ll without a doubt B back B4 the exhibit closes April 2nd, w/a few MORE friends! BRAVO! :>)
