On June 1st Donovan’s exhibition of his Sapphographs opens at the Hellenic American Union in Athens, Greece. Organized by Govinda Gallery in association with Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies, this exhibition features Donovan’s Sapphographs printed in a monumental scale. Produced at master printer David Adamson’s studio, Sappho’s Song, for example, is twelve feet long. Donovan’s exhibition is the central component of SapphoFest 2010. In conjunction with the exhibition is a series of scholar’s lectures and poetry readings. Details of the exhibition and the lectures can be found here.

To celebrate this important exhibition Govinda Gallery is publishing it’s first online catalog: Sapphographs: Donovan, featuring essays by Center for Hellenic Studies director Gregory Nagy, exhibition curator Chris Murray, and a preface with a poem by Donovan. To enjoy this catalogue please go here.

Donovan’s Sapphographs are also featured in an exhibition in Nafplion, Greece at the Center for Hellenic Studies, Nafplion. That exhibition begins on June 4th and also features a series of educational programs.

June 1st is also the day Govinda Gallery first began in Georgetown in 1975. Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed our exhibitions and publications over these past 35 years.
