Matrix Exhibitions & Publications is pleased to present Elements of Style: The Hip-Hop & Urban Art Exhibition. By bringing together the works of 14 artists from Chicago, Washington, DC, New York, and Philadelphia, Elements of Style consists of rotating installations of photographs and paintings that capture the pervasive influence of hip-hop. Through these works, it is clear that hip-hop is more than simply a musical phenomenon; it is an enduring cultural movement which continues to have a significant social, political, and economic impact on contemporary society.
During the course of the exhibition, dynamic live performances featuring the other “elements”emcees, DJs, and breakdancersas well as film screenings and a fashion show will be open to the public. Conceived as a vehicle for showcasing new and innovative artists, Matrix Exhibitions & Publications is dedicated to bringing compelling artwork to the public through books and exhibitions in a variety of venues. Elements of Style: The Hip-Hop & Urban Art Exhibition has been organized by Eklectyk Creative Media in association with Matrix.
The exhibition opens on February 4 at 3307 M Street in Georgetown and continues through February 27. It will be open Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and by appointment as well.
